If you haven’t reached the Log Cabin or explored the Northern area yet, follow the walkthrough (click HERE, steps 10) to get there.
Your tree-planting and cutting journey begins when you find Fir Cones under the Towering Grand Firs near the Log Cabin.
You can also find Fir Cones under Towering Grand Firs in the Northern part of Bellflower Meadow. To see them through the trees, enable Toggle visibility of trees in your Right Toolbar.
After Joe picks up the first Fir Cones, the Forestry Quest will appear.

“Forestry” Quest
Open the Quest and click the green Show Me button. The Quest is marked as Hard, so it will take some time to complete.
Show Me will point to a general area in the North where you can plant the Fir Cones Joe found.

How to plant a Wild Tree / Seed
You can plant in several areas of Bellflower Meadow. The Northern Area is the largest, but you can also plant near the Water Tower, Fishing Hut, Log Cabin, Metal Gate, and across the river.
After selecting a seed, all plantable areas are marked with a green outline.
Open Joe’s Backpack, hover over the seed you want to plant (for example a Fir Cone), and click the Plant button that appears. Make sure the placement square turns green, then click to plant it — Joe will plant the seed.

Hover over the seed/tree to cycle through the available information:
- Energy needed to cut/seed
- Time until the next growth stage
- Time until fully grown

Growth stages example (Fir Cone → Towering Grand Fir):
- 1st stage — 1 hour — Grand Fir Sprout
- 2nd stage — 2 hours — Grand Fir Sapling
- 3rd stage — 5 hours — Mature Grand Fir
- 4th stage — 16 hours — Towering Grand Fir

The hover menu also shows what you get for cutting at each stage and which tool is required (can be disabled in Settings → page 2)
To continue the Forestry Quest, wait until the tree reaches the Towering stage, then cut it with an upgraded Axe.
Tips
- Maple, Elm, and Beech need more space than Fir and Oak. Plant the larger trees first, then fill gaps with smaller ones.
- Leave some space around larger trees for easy cutting and replanting.
- Fertilizer speeds growth; Rain helps too.
Problem & solution example
Because each tree has different spacing requirements, a Fir can be planted closer to a Maple because it needs less space. However, if you later cut the Maple and try to replant it in the same spot, there may no longer be enough room for the Maple. You’ll need to clear some nearby Fir trees first.
How do I upgrade the Axe?
To upgrade Joe’s Axe, complete more Quests in Bellflower Meadow and its Mine to unlock the Smelter and Engineering.
If you’re stuck, our full Bellflower Meadow Walkthrough (click HERE to open it) has step-by-step instructions with images. The first Axe upgrade becomes available at Step 26, but you must complete all previous steps to reach it.
Tree Permits – How to Get Them & Use Them
Tree Permits allow Joe to cut SOME trees in Bellflower Meadow. Exchange Green Vouchers for Tree Permits in Warehouse → Exchange at 1 Green Voucher = 1 Tree Permit. Green Vouchers come from Charity Orders and other sources — info can be found HERE.

To see which trees require a permit, hover over them and look for the red Tree Permit sign. Good early targets are the Frasier Firs in the Northern Area. Poplars require 9 Tree Permits each.

After upgrading Joe’s Axe, he can also use Tree Permits to cut certain Towering Trees.
Finding more Seeds (Maple, Elm, Beech, Oak, Fir)
Can’t find any tree seeds? Try these:
- Check your Barn: Look in the Fruits section of your Barn.
- Check under trees in BfM: Some trees can produce seeds once a day, but only after you’ve previously cut that tree type.
- Place a Request on the Market Stand.
Reminder: Which seed grows which tree:
- Fir Cone → Grand Fir
- Acorn → White Oak
- Samaras → Maple Tree
- Elm Tree Seed → English Elm
- Beech Tree Seed → Beech Tree
Cut Towering Trees & Get Hardwoods
You get Hardwoods by cutting trees in the final two growth stages: Mature and Towering.
After upgrading Joe’s Axe, cut a Towering tree such as Grand Fir or Oak. Don’t forget to chop the stump after the tree falls for extra loot!

Some Towering trees, such as Maple, Elm, and Beech, require the Lumberjack Axe (Level 3).
Plant Trees in Orchards | Mulch Tree Rings & Mulch Bags
Bellflower Meadow has 2 Orchards for 48 trees total:
- The Swamps: 21 trees
- Dewey Orchard: 27 trees
Orchards accept only Trees from Shop → Trees. You cannot plant wild tree seeds.
Tree Mulch forms a Mulch Tree Ring that helps retain moisture and reduces fruit ripening time by 15%. Find Mulch Bags in Old Shack → Other Stuff.
How does it work?
1. Place the Mulch on an Orchard.

2. Add Tree Beds over the Mulch Tree Rings.

3. Add Trees from Shop → Trees.
